東京アートブックフェアを参加アートバイト講評団アーティストの5人について。
2014から毎年東京アートブックフェアに参加しています。2021年の今回はアートバイト講評団の5人が参加しています。

Masumi Hase -「In the Lo-fi Mood」は自身の初となるアーティストブックです。 昔の映画やフィルムカメラに影響を受け、様々なシチュエーションで撮影された写真たちを タイトル通りローファイな雰囲気に仕上げました。
Arthur Huangは、最新「日常再構成の注釈」アーティストブックを発表します。このアーティストブックは、2020年のパンデミックがもたらす広範囲な影響から、日常生活に基づいた3つのプロジェクト、「散歩記憶」、「日々ドローイング」、「残り思い出」の進化と収束を探るものです。 その結果、「日常再構成」という予想外の新しい作品群が生まれました。これは、2次元をベースにしたプロジェクトを、複製や再利用によって有機的で奇妙な3次元の形に変えるものです。「日常再構成の注釈」は、科学的な方法論の要素を取り入れて創造的な実践のメカニズムを解明するスタジオでの実践を通じて、これらのプロジェクトがどのようにして3次元に移行したのかを探り、おそらく発見することになるでしょう。
Yuko Kameiは、最新「ナチュラル・オカレンス」アーティストブックを発表します。 火山地帯で撮った色とりどりの地表の写真と、科学の原理にインスパイアされたドローイングを重ねたシリーズです。
Etsuko Satoは、新作「Position and Gaze」を展示します。「Position and Gaze」は以前参加したアーティスト・イン・レジデンスでの展示よりインスパイアされて制作しました。木材を用いて高さの違う二つの台を作り、そこに野菜や日用品を配置して撮影した本作は、ある物が他の物との関係で存在している位置を顕にし、そこに眼差しを向けることを考え制作しました。二つの台は立体的な額縁の様にも見え、作品の中では常に規定値として機能しています。
Nick Westは、現在進行中の「Books From Things」と題したシリーズから2点の新作を展示します。 本を別の素材で再構築することで、作家はすぐに手に入る日用品から一点物の彫刻を作り出します。モジュール式に作業を行い、アッサンブラージュの技法を用いて、物理的な構成要素からページを構築していきます。TABFオンラインは、小さな電球で作った新しい本と、作業用手袋で作った本を制作・発表します。

Below is information about each artist’s new releases that will be on our table and wall for the Tokyo Art Book Fair 2021.

Masumi Hase will be releasing her first artist book “In the Lofi Mood”. Influenced by popular imagery, her art book combines photography with overlaid text. Taking its title from a production quality (Lo-fi) that utilises imperfections as a deliberate aesthetic choice, this artist book brings blurred photography and private moments together.
Arthur Huang will be releasing “Daily Reconfigurations Annotated”. This artist book explores the evolution and convergence of three projects based in everyday life - the Memory Walks, the Daily Drawings, and the Memories' Remnants Collages - resulting from the wide ranging ramifications of the pandemic in 2020. The result has been a new and unexpected body of work, the Everyday Reconfigurations, which transformed the two-dimensional based projects into an organic and strange three-dimensional form through reproduction and repurpose. The “Daily Reconfigurations Annotated” artist book will explore and perhaps make discoveries into how these projects moved into a third dimension by drawing on a studio practice which invokes elements of scientific methodology to elucidate the mechanisms of the creative practice.
Yuko Kamei will be releasing her new book, "Natural Occurrence", which is inspired by earth elements exposed at volcanic sites. Heat, pressure and thermal water trigger chemical reactions to form various compounds. Each occurrence follows natural laws such as subatomic particle behaviour and geometric crystal formation. In this book, gold line drawings inspired by scientific principles are layered over photographic images of volcanic land surfaces.
Etsuko Sato will be displaying her new release “Position and Gaze.” - “I was inspired to create “Position and Gaze” by an artist-in-residence exhibition I had participated in previously. For this work, I made two wooden tables of varying heights, placed vegetables and everyday objects on them, and photographed the results. While creating this work, I thought about highlighting how any given object’s existence is positioned in relation to other objects and turning the observer’s gaze toward that truth. The two tables even look like three-dimensional frames, functioning continuously within the work as a kind of defined value.”
Nick West will be exhibiting two new works from his ongoing series titled "Books From Things”. Reimagining the book in alternative materials, the artist creates one-of-a-kind sculptures from readily available commodities. Working modularly, he uses the technique of assemblage to build up pages from physical constituents. For TABF 2021, he will make and present a new book made from tiny lightbulbs and another made from work gloves.
